Please note: all of the below is intended as a joke. Get real! Book through Red & Black Music
The Rory Duffy JazzFunkSoulPop Experience is an exciting, eclectic group of musicians offering a distinct vibe and a unique sound, emerging from Jazz, Pop, Soul and Acousticy-Folk/Jazzfolk wish wash music, creating a vibrant drama on and off the stage. With the most sought after professional musicians, the crème-de-la-crème of talented, fresh-faced graduates from the London colleges, its members are all busy, experienced pro session musicians who have come together spontaneously and recorded a spin-off demo/music video, which simply happened overnight.* The band have collectively performed at all venues from notorious jazz haunts around London to the stately homes of the exceedingly rich and famous.
*via twitch of an eyelid and a vague hand gesture, combined with a generous dollop of social jargon, fluke and a general impression of interest /street credibility among the session circuit.
What do we offer?
Rory Duffy is available as a saxophonist, flautist, clarinettist or pianist solo or performing as part of a duo, trio, quartet, quintet, sextet, septet, octet, nonet, dectet or even as a full big band or orchestra. He can even introduce other elements into the performance such as a DJ, dancer, magician, fireworks, pyrotechnics, guest speakers, jokers or flag-wavers to further enhance your special event. Just ask!
Since Rory Duffy only works with busy, professional London-based session musicians, we charge rates recommended by the Musicians' Union. We'd ask that suitable travel expenses are paid for anywhere outside of London, plus a hot 3-course meal and drinks to keep us going. Towels and a bed for the night are also welcome! Rory Duffy usually performs for 2 x 45 minute sets or 3 x 30 minutes if he can be bothered.
If you'd like to request songs, please just ask! Rory will learn them for free and also add vocals if need be. Requests are usually charged like £50 minimum for something like a wedding first dance. Please ask if unsure and we will be happy to help you :-) we can even send you videos of our regular rehearsal nights /binge sessions.
How to book
If you're interested in enquiring about the availability of the Rory Duffy JazzFunkSoulPop Experience, simply phone 999 (only if it's an emergency). We prefer to do bookings the old fashioned way, and communicate with clients on the phone initially, so we can listen to your intonation, pick up on your nuances, make bird noises and abstract vocalisations and/or glean a general sense of whether we like you or not. This is order to make the experience more intimate and personal for you. We will even sing down the phone to you if you can catch us on one of our better days.
Please note we only take calls on weekday daytimes when we're not busy working, depending on the time of day, whether we're teaching, whether we're in the country, what the weather's like, what conjunction the moon is in and what mood we're in. If you can catch us at an appropriate time then let's talk! We can discuss your special needs and requirements and create a bespoke package to suit the nature of your event with a view to potentially pencilling you into our diary (depending on availability and how keen we are). This will depend on factors such as how many musicians you want us to bring, how big your house is, what time of year it is and a range of other factors which are obvious. We won't list these factors of course but they will gradually present themselves through the smoke screens of verbal utterance and lovely, rambling oratorical perambulations over the phone which may or may not be recorded for quality and training purposes. Please note summertimes and Christmas are our busiest times and we charge like 3x as much depending on the circumstances. The rest is just common sense so you can be guaranteed for a high standard of professionalism and reliability!
No deposit or contract required. If something more lucrative and better paid comes up we can't guarantee we will be available anymore; we will just cancel without letting you know (but this is highly unlikely). Otherwise, cash on the night only please, so we can pay musicians face-to-face before they head off home and dodge the tax man on their way. Unfortunately, we are unable to confirm bookings made more than one to 2 months in advance.
Call us on the banana phone, anytime. We're available.*
*except when we're not.
Before the event...
If we have time, we will call you in the run up to the event to discuss the details of the event such as the date and location, times and running order, parking, food/dietary requirements and changing room. If you miss us, we won't leave a voice mail, we will just try again later and engage in a few rounds of phone tag until we happen upon a mutually appropriate time. This is also a great opportunity for us to build a rapport, which will undoubtedly involve breathing heavily down the phone to one another, exchanging pleasantries twenty times and orally stressing the points of the contract repeatedly until they sink into our deeper subconscious. Eventually, we will be fluent in one another's street lingo and be able to communicate telepathically (or at least make make friendly, synchronised banter). Things might change on the day but that's just how it goes, I suppose.
