11-piece salsa/latin jazz orchestra, starring lead vocalist ALYSS ROSE and featuring guest vocalist LOUIS HARTSHORN, accompanied by a stellar lineup of talented musicians from Manchester, Liverpool, York, London and Bournmouth @ Matt & Phred's Jazz Club.

3 sets of Salsa, Afro-Cuban Jazz and Latin Fusion with tunes from Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, Buena Vista Social Club, Santana, Marc Anthony, Miami Vice, Irakere, Eagles, Jorge Ben, Michael Buble, Van Morrison, Celia Cruz, Barry Manilow, Ricky Martin, Oscar D'Leon, Tito Puente and Gibson Brothers.

DIÁSPORA is an 11-piece band presenting a one-way ticket to the sizzling, scorching sounds of Latin America and the Caribbean. 

The 11-piece line-up (2 vocalists, 3 percussionists, 4 horns, piano and bass) lends itself to an expansive ‘big band’ sound – without losing the dynamism and spark of a small group; and combines sensuous vocals, sophisticated horn lines and explosive percussion solos. 

With their vision to unite the rhythms of the Americas, their music is uplifting, inspiring and unifying, and celebrates the melting pot of cultures that arose out of the African Slave Trade, whilst focusing on the Afro-Cuban and globalised ‘salsa’ idioms that have become important musical languages and forms of solidarity and cultural exchange between communities throughout the world.

Whilst ‘salsa’ remains the focus of what they do, DIÁSPORA isn’t your regular ‘salsa band’… It’s a Latin band, in the wider sense; freely mixing ‘salsa’ idioms with other influences – African, Spanish, Antillean, Caribbean, South and North American – to bring you a fresh, funky and unique Latin music experience.

With their critically acclaimed fusion of rhythms from throughout the Americas, DIÁSPORA is one of the most exciting new projects to emerge on the UK Latin scene today.
