Contracts & Parking
We've had a few snags re: a gig that’s tomorrow and needed the following requested: contracts, parking.
Realistically, we couldn't enforce the parking if it hasn’t been agreed in our contract with the agent.
Gig confirmation re: 09/08/2014
This is why we contract events initially at the point of enquiry, but have a separate "Show Advance" document/procedure so that the finer details of the event can be ironed out once a contract is in place, as requested by musicians. Read why we now conduct a separate show advance here.
Gig detail confirmation PLEASE NOTE VENUE CHANGE>>
Quick note, we've checked the hotel's website: they do not have a parking anyways. They only have proximity with a public car park at 35GBP per day. So enforcing parking is unrealistic. As I personally hold the belief that many times, people do want to help but don't know how to, I've added suggestions to the email to Pete.
Pete (agent) responded below: we were worried he’s agitated.
We needed to reassure him and instil trust in US that the gig IS covered; we were only mentioning it to highlight the difficulties, in case any of the musicians used it as an excuse to kick up a fuss.
Not sure if telling him how we contract / show advance our musicians is going into too much detail that might be condescending/patronising to an agent… But proposing that we send something via Signable, not necessarily a full contract but just a 1-page PDF stating:
12/05/2017 - Rory Jazz (London lineup) - London
Quartet 12/5/17 Savoy Hotel London - 6.45pm - 7.45pm £70 each
In turn, this negotiation triggered 2 musician repercussions.
Just to be clear due to the fact that you've had word from everyone, I've deleted the bits referring to pending drummer updates and so on.
Red & Black Music was set up in 2012 to stop musicians cancelling.
Red & Black Music has been running a journal since 2012 for the purposes of evaluation and future development. It documents internal struggles faced by musicians and music leaders in an honest and transparent way - and evidences breaches of communication and accountability both on the artist side and the client side, in an open access format.
