Fiesta Latina ft. Angelica Rincon

27/8/2016

Diáspora's baby band Fiesta Latina will be opening the night again for this month's A celebration of Cuban music taking place at The Jazz Cafe on 4th September.

Fiesta Latina is the instant coffee to the brewed beans of Diáspora... With an emphasis on spontaneity and live dynamic interaction, this compact little 4-piece freely blends salsa with other influences to create a fresh, funky and instant Latin house party experience.

The band started out off the back of Diáspora in 2013, touring bar launches and rum promotions around the country, and has been popular at weddings and house parties ever since.

This month the quartet are delighted to be joined by Colombian singer Angie Rincon. A firm favourite on the London Latin circuit, Angelica will be interpreting classics by Gloria Estefan, Celia Cruz and Buena Vista Social Club.

Check out her page here: www.facebook.com/angiemrinconuk
and catch Fiesta's set at 7:30pm.

Artist Focus: Angelica

26/8/2016

In the run up to A celebration of Cuban music at The Jazz Cafe featuring Diáspora 12-piece band on 4th September, we're running an artist focus on the players joining us for the night. This month, we’re very pleased to welcome Angie Rincon who will be opening the night with Fiesta Latina.
Born and raised in London, Angelica was born into a Colombian family and into a very artistic and musical environment. From the age of 5, she began studying dance, a passion which eventually took her to the prestigious Silvia Young Theatre School. Her musical abilities were developed not only by being exposed to the coming and going of musicians in her home (her father a musician for the last 30 years) but also by studying piano from age 10.
Picture
Angelica began vocal studies at age 17 under the guidance of Guillermo Rozenthuler. In 2003 she joined Cocomex, a 6-piece Latin music ensemble where she worked as a backing vocalist and dancer, and eventually became lead vocalist. Alongside this, Angelica developed a strong passion for Latin percussion and to this day includes hand percussion as part of her stage performance.

In 2005, Angelica became one third of Son Real Orchestra, the only Latin music band in the UK lead by three female vocalists. In 2007, Son Real Orchestra recorded “London Tropical“ under ARC records. Angelica’s vocals can be appreciated in songs such as “Caleno”, “Mi Refugio“, “Mi Bello Cali“ and “My Cherie Amour“. Whilst in Son Real Orchestra, Angelica shared the stage with big names in the Latin music industry like "Binomio de Oro" and "Diomedes Diaz”, and worked as a backing vocalist for salsa singers such as Grammy award winning singer Lalo Rodríguez.

Angelica has also performed lead vocals for various Latin bands in the UK scene such as Salseology, and collaborated on urban Latin projects with artists like “Baby Latino“ as can be appreciated on “Tumbao” song recorded under and independent label in 2009.

Since then, Angelica Rincon is working as a solo artist with the purpose of bringing a female perspective to salsa music which is lacking in the industry. Angelica released her solo album in summer 2012.

Artist Focus: Tom

25/8/2016

In the run up to A celebration of Cuban music at The Jazz Cafe featuring Diáspora 12-piece band on 4th September, we're running an artist focus on the players joining us for the night.
A small child’s imagination is easily captivated, and for Tom it was the sonorous colours of the brass on the many CDs that his parents used to play that got him excited every time. With an ancestry of brass-banders it was in the blood, and seeing bands playing around Frampton Cotterell was what made him say, “when I grow up, I want to play the trumpet." Tom quickly progressed and was soon playing in a variety of brass bands, jazz bands and orchestras, and in 2008-2009 he took up a place with National Youth Wind Ensemble of Great Britain. He was later granted a place at Wells Cathedral School where he played trumpet and sang with the big band, and was provided with an unsurpassed wealth of experience in all styles of music including solo, orchestral, brass chamber music, lead trumpet, jazz trumpet and historical performance. His playing took him all around the UK and even as far afield as Hong Kong and Malaysia.
Picture
In 2009 and 2010 he joined The Company Music Theatre - an acclaimed youth music theatre company based in Manchester, and has recently completed his degree at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, which culminated in his final recital: Brandenburg to Broadway. A true all-rounder, he has performed extensively on numerous denominations of the trumpet, with barely a single genre forgotten, contributed to the lead lines in the upcoming Diáspora album. To add to his portfolio, Tom is an avid classical singer, performing professionally around London in choirs and as a soloist.

Review - Mambo Fantástico

25/8/2016

"We enjoyed the concert last month. Diáspora covered a huge breadth of musical genres, certainly not limited to 'Cuban music', even by the wide definitions of New Yorican musicians. I am huge fan of Latin music from all over the Americas, and send you our wishes and solidarity in pushing to keep music live"

Review - Orange Blossom Events

19/8/2016

"I am very pleased to recommend Diáspora. They put on a great performance at my client’s wedding and were a pleasure to work with. The bride and groom were looking for a fun, carnival feel for their drinks reception and Diáspora delivered. They even led a musical parade from the church to the reception venue which set the tone. I hope I’ll have the opportunity to hire them again soon."

In the run up to A celebration of Cuban music at The Jazz Cafe featuring Diáspora 12-piece band on 4th September, we're running an artist focus on the players joining us for the night.
This month, we are very excited to be joined by very special guest vocalist Ingrid Rueda. Colombian born singer and songwriter, Ingrid Rueda loves performing everything from the Andes to Flamenco, from rock to salsa and finds melodies to accompany the lyrics she composes which she describes as “the singing of hearty moments in life”. Ingrid was born in Bogotá-Colombia and grew up in Ibagué, a place among the Andes named "Musical City of Colombia".
Picture
A well-travelled and accomplished vocalist, Ingrid was awarded twice at the Tabaiba International Song Contest in the Canary Islands and was finalist nominee Vocalist of the year at the Latin American Music Awards2014. She has taken part in different albums with bands such as Solatino Ingrid & Cindy “Tip of my tongue”, Bahareque “Estrellas para ti” and Los Soneros “Esto es lo que hay”. She has also added some of her compositions to the mentioned recordings. "Flor Salvaje", "Calm Down", "Rumbero en la Luna", "Rogao" and recently "Our Secret" are among her single productions.

Ingrid is based in London and currently performs throughout the UK and internationally in her team - The Latin Code, ThE WhEeL SisTerS, Mexican Mariachi Las Adelitas UK, Salsa-Latin pop band Palenke Latin and Andrean-fusion all-female band WARMI Uk.

Credits as a choreographer include Nutcracker The Musical at Pleasance Theatre, and the opera The Merry Widow seen at Wilton's Music Hall.
