In the run up to A Celebration of Cuban Music at The Jazz Cafe ft. Diáspora 12-piece + Fiesta Latina on 27th December, we're running an artist focus on the players joining us for the night.
A small child’s imagination is easily captivated, and for Tom it was the sonorous colours of the brass on the many CDs that his parents used to play that got him excited every time. With an ancestry of brass-banders it was in the blood, and seeing bands playing around Frampton Cotterell was what made him say, “when I grow up, I want to play the trumpet."

Accolades include National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain OFFICIAL, Wells Cathedral School, The Company Music Theatre and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama which culminated in his final recital: Brandenburg to Broadway. A true all-rounder, he has performed extensively on numerous denominations of the trumpet, with barely a single genre forgotten, contributed to the lead lines in the upcoming Diáspora album. To add to his portfolio, Tom is an avid classical singer, performing professionally around London in choirs and as a soloist.

"I listen to a wide variety of music and therefore I feel this is reflected through the music I create. I feel the music transcends genre, as it is what is in the heart that matters. I like to see each song as a canvas on which to paint musical ideas."

Rea's vocal style branches everything from jazz, progressive rock, funk and romantic to Celtic folk, Latin, pop and minimalism. Rea won an international songwriting competition in 2005 and last year released a solo album "8 Hours" to great acclaim. "I really believe that music can make the world go round, and that special song or piece has the power to inspire, communicate and translate what otherwise cannot be said in simple words. I feel we have a responsiblity as artists to keep filling the world with light, hope and encourage others to keep creating a better world."
