Hiring Diáspora - some clarifications

Recently, there has been some confusion regarding pricing and representation.

1. As per our announcement on 07/08/12, Diáspora is officially London based, which means that the band is no longer offering discounts for the North-West. This means that for engagements in Manchester, the band would charge zone 4 fees, because the postcode (M1) is more than 150 miles from the home postcode (SW1A). Yes that's right, Diáspora is not Manchester based; it is London based.
2. Diáspora comes 11-piece as standard, and breaks into anything down to 5-piece. This means that the possible lineups for Diáspora are 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5. Anything less than 5-piece is not Diáspora and the band performs under an affiliated name such as the name of the solo artist. Diáspora has never performed as less than 5-piece and the one time that it did perform as a 3-piece, Diáspora lost a booking because a prospective client came to see the gig, but decided not to make a booking because he was looking for a larger band, which is ironically what Diáspora is - a larger band (as the name implies)! Ever since, so that we are not confusing people (people are easily confused) Diáspora has never performed as anything less than 5-piece because it is simply not Diáspora. If you are an agent or promoter, please do not hire or bill us as 'Diáspora' or put 'Diáspora' on the contract unless it states 'Diáspora' in the original quotation.
3. Diáspora is not a salsa band. Diáspora is not a samba band. 'Salsa' and 'Samba' are 2 completely different animals. Diáspora is a Latin band - it plays those types of music, but it also plays many others. Please request a playlist if you are not sure!

As per what was quoted / agreed with Ashley, we are bringing Rory Duffy + Alyss Rose Jazz Quartet, however, the style of music will be Samba / Bossa Nova.

Thanks for emailing those timings across!

We will be able to provide food and refreshments for the band; we are doing so for the other entertainment at the event so that shouldn’t be a problem. We will also have access to the adjacent Millennium Galleries so they should have a place to relax between sets.

In terms of parking I cannot guarantee parking spaces but the nearest car park is:

I have attached a map to the bottom of this email – along the orange line it is a short 2 minute walk through a pedestrianised area from the car park to the Winter Gardens.

Hey Ashley,

Thanks for getting in touch.

I'm sending you quotes for the 3, 4, 5-piece lineups (see quotation email).

As mentioned, I would have to charge a bit extra on top to cover my own transport / accommodation as the enquiry comes within 2 weeks of the engagement and I'm already booked to be returning to London. This works out £41.25 train (Manchester-London / Y-P Railcard) / £14 accommodation = £55.25.

Instrumental options are flexible -

3-piece:
Sax / flute / male vocals
Guitar
Cajon

4-piece:
Sax / flute / (+ opt. male vocals) OR female vocals and I could play piano
Piano
Bass
Kit

5-piece:
Vocals (female)
Sax / flute
Piano
Bass
Kit

It would be fine to interchange with drummers / dancers - as long as the overall performance time does not exceed 135 minutes (2.25 hours) then there would be no extended engagement charges.

Also, if it is going ahead, I would need written confirmation by this 5pm this Friday - if possible. Once they're happy with costs, I'll check availability with my female vocalist.

Great, could I be really cheeky and ask if you could possibly forward me the email (withdraw client contact details as appropriate), or written confirmation?

I'm sure that it'll be fine, but I've had problems in the past with engagements falling through at the last minute and ever since I've made it standard policy to obtain written agreements for all engagements that I take on.

Even if it's just an email confirming date, times, venue and fee, then that would suffice.
